Backed Up Right Now? Call and We Roll

A drain that has started coming back up will not settle down on its own. Ring (02) 9139 8009 at any hour, including weekends and public holidays.

Speak to a licensed plumber, describe what you are looking at, and get a straight answer on how soon someone is there. Not a call centre. Not a recorded message.

Two things help until we arrive. Leave every tap and washing machine off so nothing adds to what is already banked up, and give whatever has surfaced a wide berth.

What Causes the Blockages We Clear in Double Bay

Double Bay drains fight gravity in a way flat suburbs never do. The land falls from the Edgecliff ridge down to the harbour, and every drain in between runs across that grade.

Steep pipe sounds like it should self-clean. It doesn't.

Water accelerates on a steep fall and outruns the solids it is meant to carry. The liquid reaches the bottom, the debris stops partway down, and the build-up starts where the grade eases off near the flat.

That is why one house can have a drain that runs beautifully for years, then blocks in the same spot every time. The spot is not random. It is where the slope quits.

Then there is what the pipes are made of. The heritage houses and semis behind the village core are largely still on the clay sewer lines they were built with.

Clay does not bend. It cracks, and a cracked joint on a steep run is a debris trap with an invitation on it.

Knox Street and Cross Street are lined with mature trees, and their roots take that invitation. Once they are through a joint, every bit of grit coming down the grade has something to catch on.

Add the flats. Around 77% of dwellings here are units or apartments, which means plenty of kitchens feeding shared stacks that all drain the one direction: downhill, toward the bay.

The Warning Signs Before a Drain Lets Go

A drain gives you weeks of notice before it stops. Catching it in that window separates an hour of jetting from a courtyard with a hole in it.

Symptom Likely cause Next move
Sink or shower emptying slowly Fat and soap closing the pipe in, without shutting it yet Book drain cleaning while it is still open
Toilet gurgles when the basin drains Trapped air forcing its way back past something lodged downstream Put a camera on it and pin the spot down
Sewage smell rising off a gully Waste parked in the line instead of moving through Ring us, that reads as a sewer fault
Puddle spreading around an outside grate Pit or outlet pipe unable to swallow the flow Get the stormwater side inspected
Bowl level climbing, then sinking Pressure shifting behind a partial block in the main Quit flushing and ring (02) 9139 8009
Lawn patch that stays wet in dry weather Broken pipe losing water into the soil around it That is repair territory, not clearing

Two of these turning up together points at the pipework, not the fitting in front of you.

Why So Many Locals Choose Us for Blocked Drains

Owners who have held the same flat for thirty years and buyers three months into a renovation ring us for identical reasons. Someone who arrives, names the price, and finishes on it.

We Turn Up When We Say

Thirty minutes, guaranteed, measured on a clock rather than a calendar. Your drain will not behave better while you wait on a window nobody intended to keep.

The Price Is Settled Before Anything Starts

A free on-site quote, then a price you sign off. It holds whether the job runs twenty minutes or all afternoon, and whether or not the pipe has a surprise in it.

The Work Is Covered for Life

Lifetime labour warranty on every drain we clear.

If it's not right, we come back. No questions. No cost.

Thirty-Five Years of Pipe Between Us

35+ years combined experience on the tools means your line is unlikely to be doing anything we have not already crawled a camera through. Guessing gets expensive. Recognising it doesn't.

Straight pricing

The Cost Question, Answered Straight

Nobody rings a drain plumber hoping to be surprised. So the model is simple: nothing to come out, nothing to quote, and you approve the price before any tool touches your pipe.

What shifts that price is the pipe itself, never the postcode:

  • Where it has stopped. An arm's length inside the gully is nothing like twelve metres out beneath a driveway.
  • What is doing the blocking. Fat gives way to the jetter inside an hour. Roots through a split clay joint end somewhere different.
  • What it takes to reach. A walled courtyard with no side gate is slower going than an open back lawn.
  • What condition the pipe is in. Where the camera shows a collapse, clearing alone is a patch, and we would rather tell you than book the same visit twice.
  • Whether relining beats digging. Often it does, once you price rebuilding the paving digging would take up.

Then two things come off the top: $50 off when you book online, plus a 10% seniors discount.

How we work

How We Work: Camera First, Clear Second, Proof Last

Four steps on every job, always in this sequence. The sequence is the whole point.

  1. 01

    A Real Person Picks Up

Ring and a licensed plumber talks to you, then commits to a time rather than a maybe. No hold music. No script being read at you.

  2. 02

    We Look Before We Touch

Nothing gets cleared until we have watched the inside of your pipe on a screen. Once we know what is down there, you get your number.

  3. 03

    The Blockage Picks the Tool

Fat and root growth call for jetting. A solid object wedged in the line calls for an eel. What is down there decides, not what happens to be loaded on the van.

  4. 04

    We Prove It Runs Clear

Back down goes the camera, and you watch the water move. Where a permanent fix is worth doing, relining or repair, you hear it there and then, with footage behind it rather than an opinion.

Common questions

FAQs from Double Bay Homeowners

The six we get asked on Double Bay driveways more than any others, answered the way we would answer standing there.

How do you clear a blocked drain?

Camera first, so the blockage is something we have seen rather than something we assume. What it turns out to be picks the method: jetting for fat and root growth, an eel for something solid in the way.

Can you clear tree roots out of a drain?

Regularly, and the heritage blocks behind the village keep us busy with it. Jetting shears the growth off flush, though only the footage says whether the cracked joint they came through wants relining before they grow back.

Do you use a camera to check the drain?

Twice on every job. Once at the start, so nobody is paying us to hunt around blind. Once at the end, so the clear line is something you watch happen instead of something we assure you about.

Are your plumbers licensed and insured?

All of them. That is NSW plumbing licence #275278C, Master Plumber accreditation and $20 million public liability behind the work. Every bit of it is yours to inspect on the spot.

Why do older Double Bay homes get recurring blocked drains?

Original clay sewer lines still sit under much of the pre-war stock here, and clay splits as it ages. Clear the roots but leave the split, and the identical blockage rebuilds itself a season or two down the track.

Who is responsible for a blocked sewer, me or Sydney Water?

Your boundary shaft is the dividing line, and the house side belongs to you, which is the side we work on. Waste coming up in the street with the neighbours copping it too is Sydney Water's mains, and we will say so.
